Job Summary:

The City of Greeley is seeking an experienced full-time Plant Operator A or B for our Boyd Water Treatment Plant, which is a 38 MGD direct filtration plant located in Loveland, Colorado.  The Plant Operator will report to the Lead Plant Operator and will work with a group of committed employees and other professionals who are dedicated to operating, maintaining, and optimizing all aspects of the plant to enhance Greeley’s leadership role in the northern Colorado water community.  This plant is unique in that it operates seasonally, generally April through October. During the offseason all staff will primarily work day-shift on maintenance projects and preventative maintenance on various equipment in the plant and throughout the water system.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

“A” Operator: 
•    Valid and current driver’s license.
•    High school diploma or equivalent.
•    Current Class “A“ Water Treatment Certificate  with the State of Colorado.
•    Two (2) plus years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants.

“B” Operator:
•    Valid and current driver’s license.
•    High school diploma or equivalent.
•    Current Class “B” Water  Treatment Certificate with the State of Colorado and must be able to obtain a Class “A” Water Colorado certification within two (2) years of hire.
•    One and a half (1 ½) to Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants.

OR
•    A combination of education, experience, licensure, or certification that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be                      considered by the hiring authority.

Preferred

•    Five (5) years of experience working at a Water Treatment Plant.
•    Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Ecology, Water Shed Sciences.
•    Maintenance and troubleshooting experience in water treatment and instrumentation process equipment.
•    Current Class “A” Water Treatment Colorado certificate with the State of Colorado. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•    Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.
•    Ability to perform algebraic calculations of chemical feed rates and manually adjust the process pumps to output the feed rates.
•    Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.), PC-based methods, SCADA, CityWorks, and           the ability to learn new software and systems.
•    Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
•    Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and                details accurately and clearly.
•    Organizational skills, including the ability to set and meet goals and deadlines, manage appointments, create schedules, coordinate, and facilitate meetings, and make               decisions. 
•    Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal                     effectiveness.
•    Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and stay on task when completing special projects and daily assignments.
•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results.
•    Ability to maintain a strong work ethic, positive problem-solving attitude, and enthusiasm for the work performed.

Essential Functions:

•    Reads and interprets gauges and meters used in regulating operations of plant equipment.
•    Monitors objects and data for compliance and operating standards.
•    Performs daily record keeping, water quality sampling, and routine laboratory analysis.
•    Performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
•    Completes work orders and accurately records information in CityWorks.
•    Collects and analyzes water samples; records and maintains data.
•    Monitors SCADA, water quality, trends, flows, data, plant processes for compliance and operating standards.
•    Maintains and calibrates on-line process analyzers.
•    Maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, reports, and plant performance and repair of plant equipment.
•    Performs various projects over the offline season, including filter surveillance, equipment maintenance, plant upkeep, and training.
•    Performs other functions such as janitorial and mechanical maintenance.
•    Receives chemical deliveries.
•    Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
•    Attends safety sessions and stays informed on all safety and emergency procedures.
•    Uses hand and power tools properly and safely to maintain the facility and grounds.
•    Interprets water quality/quantity data and makes appropriate adjustments or recommendations.
•    Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Travel:  May be required to travel up to 10% of the time.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

•    Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals & gases, including gaseous chlorine.
•    Work in a variety of weather conditions.
•    May drive a dump truck and front loader on site of the Plant grounds.
•    Exposure to high noise levels, fumes or particles, risk of electrical shock.
•    Clear vision to read and interpret written reports and control room gauges.
•    Frequent walking and standing to monitor control room and treatment plant operations. 
•    Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
•    Communication skills sufficient enough to convey information to Supervisor, the public, or other employees.
•    Ability to remain in a standing/walking position for long periods of time.
•    Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds and make repetitive motions.
•    Ability to work at heights greater than 10 feet; able to climb and work while on a ladder
•    Manual dexterity sufficient enough to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.
•    Flexibility to bend, twist and reach objects at all body levels, including overhead.
•    Possible confined space entry.
•    Potential hazards exist in the form of slips, trips, falls, electrical shock, drowning, bloodborne pathogens biohazards, noise, chemical inhalation/ingestion.
•    Potential exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals used in water treatment.
