General Description
Are you ready to go wild? The City of Green Bay's Parks, Recreation, & Forestry department is seeking a Custodian to perform work of moderate difficulty in the custodial care and maintenance of buildings and grounds at the City's Wildlife Sanctuary. This individual will also perform minor repair work on equipment and machinery.
Work Schedule: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday 12:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Enjoy three days off every week! Hours can be flexible.No residency requirement.

Examples of Duties
- Performs cleaning and maintenance of parking areas, walkways, stairways, elevators, windows, floors, walls, restrooms, conference rooms, offices and lounge areas. Changes light bulbs and ballasts. Dusts woodwork, furniture, windowsills and other fixtures. Cleans and moves office equipment and furniture
- Washes walls, windows and woodwork. Vacuums and shampoos carpets. Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes and polishes floors. Locks and unlocks buildings. Sands, strips and stains woodwork and paints as needed. Responsible for maintaining reports as needed.
- May assist supervisor with monitoring and controlling supplies. Assists with pickup and disposal of trash. Assists with snow and ice removal and maintains grass and landscaped areas including weed control, lawn mowing, raking, trimming and general cleaning of walkways and parking lots.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year experience in cleaning and maintaining large buildings and grounds.
- Experience with cleaning machinery and equipment including sweepers, buffers, mowers, weed eaters, spreaders, sanders, trucks, snow blowers, shovels, etc., preferred.
- Must have valid driver's license and good driving record.
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Good knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment. Knowledge of safety measures involved in handling and use of hazardous materials used by the department and occupational and safety precautions. Knowledge of basic arithmetic calculations.
- Skill and ability to operate a variety of specialized and general machinery and equipment including sweepers, buffers, mowers, weed eaters, spreaders, sanders, trucks, snow blowers, shovels, etc. Skill and ability to follow written and oral directions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to read, interpret and apply operating, use and safety instructions provided by manufacturers for equipment, tools and supplies. Ability to complete/maintain simple reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner. Ability to work the required hours of the position.
Physical RequirementsAbility to perform the following activities:
- Lifting and carrying up to 50-75 pounds.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying.
- Ability to reach, seize, hold, grasp, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.
