- Serves as a primary point of contact for businesses seeking assistance with licensing, permitting, zoning, and other City processes.
- Provides guidance to entrepreneurs and business owners on available City, state, and federal programs, including grants, loans, tax credits, and other resources.
- Manages business development programs, including the City's Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) programs, including processing loan applications, maintaining compliance with program requirements, marketing RLF programs, and facilitating approval processes through the RLF Committee.
- Maintains and updates business resource materials, including online resources and printed materials.
- Assists in the coordination and promotion of business workshops, networking events, and other economic development initiatives.
- Collaborates with internal departments to improve business-related processes and ensure efficient service delivery.
- Conducts outreach efforts to engage with new and existing businesses, identifying their needs and connecting them with appropriate resources.
- Tracks and reports key business support metrics, including inquiries, services provided, and program outcomes.
- Assists with the preparation of reports, presentations, and communications related to business development efforts.
- Supports special projects related to economic development, such as business attraction, retention, and expansion initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economic Development, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2-5 years in economic development, business administration, or finance.
- Supplemental IEDC training and membership in related professional organizations desirable.
- Knowledge of economic development principles, practices, and techniques. Knowledge of laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies of various government agencies as they affect the business community and economic development efforts. Knowledge of principles and techniques of sales, marketing and promotion. Knowledge of current economic, development, and demographic and market trends in the regional area. Knowledge of research and analysis methods and techniques. Knowledge of local and regional business and real estate markets. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of financing private and public sector projects; and banking and underwriting principles.
- Skill in acting as a liaison and expeditor between various federal, state and local government departments and/or agencies and private business, industry and development representatives. Skill in managing multiple and multi-component projects at one time. Skill in sales and marketing techniques. Skill in web and social media development and adept at technology.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with business executives, site selectors, regional and state economic development agencies, developers, and City officials, management, departments, advisory boards, and the public. Ability to work the required hours of the position.
