What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Playground Leader position at City of Green Bay?
Responsible for instructing and providing a recreation program. Assists with planning and organizing the program and providing a safe and comfortable environment for the participants.
- Supervises participants and ensures that safety is maintained. Designs, directs, and participates in a comprehensive recreation program, including low-organized games, special events, arts and crafts, and individual tournaments. Assists participants in proper skill development and techniques in sports, games, and motor skill development activities. Diversifies programs in order to attract children of all ages and backgrounds.
- Monitors lesson plans and activity schedules on a daily basis. Completes all required paperwork, including attendance forms, lesson plans, financial reports, and payroll forms. Submits end-of-season evaluations.
- Responsible for weekly special events with duties including decorating and planning activities and refreshments.
- Opens and secures facility daily. Maintains City equipment and property.
- Advertises and promotes activities and events through bulletin boards postings, posters, and word of mouth.
- Sets up and organizes a park store with snacks and beverages. Retains all receipts and maintains up-to-date financial records. Maintains accurate inventory.
- Enforces park rules and safety procedures. Adheres to bloodborne pathogens procedures when administering First Aid and wears the proper personal protective equipment. Documents and reports all incidents in accordance with City and/or department procedures.
- Maintains a clean park shelter area.
- Follows all policies, procedures, and the philosophy that is set forth by the City of Green Bay Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of at least two semesters of post high school education at a technical college or university.
- Experience in recreation programming and working with children preferred.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license and good driving record.
- Knowledge of recreation programming.
- Considerable skill in teaching techniques and First Aid. Skill in developing and implementing lesson plans for various age groups and abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to read and perform basic calculations. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to effectively teach and instruct various age groups of children. Ability to work the required hours of the position.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform the following activities:
- Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, crouching, and kneeling.
- Occasional sitting, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.
