Now accepting applications from citizens living in Green River, WY who have previously stopped by Fire Station #2 (500 Shoshone) to speak with one of both of the Assistant Fire Chiefs.Under general supervision, volunteer firefighters serve the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information and assistance. Duties will generally fall into the following categories : fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material response, training, public education, station and equipment operation and maintenance. Note : These positions are paid a flat rate per call and not an hourly rate or by any other means. SUPERVISION Reports to the Fire Chief or their delegate - an Assistant Fire Chief, Captain or Lieutenant.No routine supervision is exercised; may be assigned some supervisory duties depending on training and certifications. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following functions & duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and / or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address City needs and changing business practices.Drive or ride in an emergency vehicle in response to fire, rescue and emergency medical events, hazardous materials response / mitigation and routine requests for assistance according to specific position assignments and training.Respond to medical emergencies - ability to evaluate the situation, render aid based on level of certification, training and established Fire Department service levels and document events in a written report.Respond to fire emergencies - ability to operate engine and firefighting equipment, perform fire ground operations, establish an incident command system, evaluate the situation, and document events in incident reports based on level of training and certification.Respond to hazardous materials emergencies - ability to identify potential hazardous material situations and determine appropriate actions based on personal level of certification, training, and established Fire Department service level and document events in written reports.Perform rescue efforts - ability to determine tactics to use and ensure the safety of all rescue personnel and observers. Participate in search parties, enter hazardous environments, and administer appropriate techniques to accomplish rescues based on level of certification or training.Maintain equipment, apparatus, and fire station - ensure all equipment is in a state of readiness at all times, check equipment according to established schedule, clean and maintain the fire station in accordance with department policies and standards.Participate in training - actively participate in training drills; attend classes on firefighting, first aid and emergency medicine, fire equipment and apparatus, and other associated classes as deemed appropriate by the Fire Chief; assist with training as requested.
