About the Role:
Are you a detail-oriented finance professional with a passion for accuracy and efficiency? Join us as an Accountant, where you'll apply your knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards to ensure financial transparency and accuracy.
In this role, you will:
Reconcile the City’s bank accounts—including five imprest accounts—to the general ledger.
Review and verify financial data, ensuring accuracy across all accounting systems and interfaces.
Prepare journal entries, adjustments, and financial reports for City departments, boards, and the State of North Carolina.
Collaborate with City departments and financial institutions on cash reconciliation and pending adjustments.
Assist in the preparation of schedules and statements for auditors and contribute to the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
Maintain the City’s Statement of Values, updating property risk exposure for asset replacement value.
Your work will play a critical role in maintaining the City's financial integrity and ensuring public funds are managed responsibly.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or higher with 24 hours of Accounting coursework
- "OR" an Associates degree with 6-8 years of experience in professional (FLSA Exempt) governmental or related accounting level position working with General Ledger activities.
- Microsoft PC application software experience.
- 1-3 years of Financial, Accounting, or Auditing experience ( "or" recent graduates with "related" experience also considered)
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for processing of financial transactions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business
- CPA or CPA candidate, and/or NC Local Government Finance Officer certification
- 2-4yrs. experience in governmental accounting field working with General Ledger activities and/or Cash/Banking reconciliation activities.
- Experience with Infor-Lawson Financial Systems.
