The City of Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, a nationally accredited and four-time National Gold Medal Award winner, is looking for passionate individuals to join our team as Head Summer Day Camp Counselors. - May through August
- Approximately 40 hours per week
- Must attend orientation and training prior to the start of camp
- Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

As the Head Summer Day Camp Counselor, you’ll lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the summer camp program at Griffin Recreation Center. Your responsibilities include:
- Program Management: Plan, organize, and implement daily schedules with activities like crafts, sports, music, wellness, and field trips.
- Leadership: Supervise and mentor children and camp staff, exemplifying the City of Greensboro's Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Stewardship).
- Safety and Communication: Ensure the well-being of campers, handle emergencies, and maintain positive relationships with parents and staff.
- Administrative Tasks: Keep accurate records, respond to program inquiries, and ensure the camp area is clean and organized.
Must work as scheduled from May through August and have reliable transportation.
The Job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License
- Experience working with school-aged children and in a summer camp setting
- Proficiency in Word and Excel software
- Must be at least 18 years old by June 1, 2024
- Willingness to participate in swim activities with campers
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain before camp starts)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field
- Experience with recreation management software
- Bilingual skills
Other Requirements:
- Must be available for the entire camp season and all training sessions
- Reliable transportation
