Summer Day Camp Counselor Leonard Recreation Center – Inspire, Lead, and Make a Difference in Greensboro!
$16.55 per hour
Seasonal, active roster position. Work as scheduled from June through August, with hours typically Monday through Friday during day camp operations.
- Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

Our Summer Day Camps are designed to be safe, fun, and enriching environments where children and staff alike can thrive.
As a Summer Day Camp Counselor at Leonard Recreation Center, you’ll be directly responsible for supervising and engaging with a group of children ages 5-12. You’ll create and lead age-appropriate activities that promote creativity, physical activity, and teamwork, ensuring a fun and safe environment for all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a positive role model by exemplifying Greensboro’s Core Values: Honesty, Integrity, Respect, and Stewardship.
- Supervise a group of approximately 12 children, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Plan, organize, and lead a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, sports, wellness games, music, drama, and field trips.
- Facilitate both structured and informal play activities.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare daily reports as needed.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintenance of program areas.
- Respond to emergencies as trained, ensuring the safety of all participants.
- Provide exceptional customer service to children, parents, and staff.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and program activities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age by June 1, 2025
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Prior computer experience using Word and Excel software programs (indicate on application)
- Prior experience working with school aged children (indicate on application)
- Physical capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work as scheduled from June through August
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with recreation management software
- Bilingual
- Reliable transportation
