- Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

The Pool Technician ensures Greensboro's outdoor pools operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all codes and policies. This critical role supports water quality, equipment maintenance, and facility upkeep, working closely with other aquatics team members to deliver exceptional service.
- Supervise and maintain outdoor pool facilities, including chemical management and equipment functionality.
- Perform routine water chemistry checks and administer chemical treatments as needed.
- Diagnose and resolve pool water or mechanical issues, coordinating with the Aquatics Coordinator and contractors.
- Prepare pools for health inspections and assist in seasonal opening and winterization processes.
- Monitor operations using DigiQuatics pool management software, email, and phone communications.
- Provide first aid, CPR, and AED support as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and adherence to policies across all pool sites.
- Communicate regularly with pool staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Complete reports and other duties as assigned.
This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- High School diploma or GED
- Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification (or ability to obtain immediately after hire)
- One season of pool maintenance experience
- American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED certification (or ability to obtain within one month of hire)
- Experience with DigiQuatics or similar aquatic management software
- Familiarity with recreation management software
- Bilingual skills
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
- Advanced certifications such as NSPF Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
Work schedule: May through September (hours may vary)
Valid Driver's License
May apply to participate in a winter or spring Lifeguard class for staff prior to summer season, to attain certifications
Stronger consideration and a higher wage may be provided to candidates who possess Lifeguard certification, additional related certifications

Additional mandatory in-service trainings/meetings will be held throughout the season.
Required holidays to work (pools close at 5pm on these days): Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day
Pool Technician hours generally early morning (prior to pools opening) and early evening (after pools close), but may vary as required
