Thank you for considering a roster position with the City of Greensboro! These positions are an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to our community. Please review the details below to ensure you understand the nature of roster employment:
- Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.
While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

• Oversee facilities and events also make sound operational and personnel decisions based on guidelines
• Provide excellent customer service and professional communication in person, and via phone
• Maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of all rules, policies, and procedures related to the position
• Prepare facility for events and rentals including set up, tear down, and custodial task
• Attend to customer needs before, during and after the event
• Serve as a liaison between department staff and event guest
• Maintain regular communication with supervisors and respond to work related requests in a timely manner
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and staff trainings
• Assist in coverage of other duties, facilities, programs, and events within Barber Park or Gateway Gardens
• Assist with other department activities and programs as needed
• Other duties as assigned
Work schedules will vary based on facility needs. The facility is utilized any day of the week (Sunday-Saturday) with shifts ranging from as early as 7 am to as late as 1 am. The physical requirements of the job are standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and walking on uneven surfaces and heavy lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. The position requires the ability to lift and move tables, chairs, and other items on a regular basis.
What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Experience with special events
- Experience with customer service
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with recreation management software (i.e. Rec Trac)
- Possession of current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications
