The Construction Inspector - Roadway position will perform inspections of roadway and sidewalk construction being added to the City infrastructure on City contracts and private subdivisions. In addition, this employee will ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract provisions, while maintaining a written record of daily construction occurrences. Inspections meeting the guidelines of the North Carolina Department of Transportation will be performed and directions will be given to the general contractor to perform the work per specifications. This individual will maintain complete job records, inspect clearing, grading, and installation of storm sewer, placement of curb and gutter, installation of sidewalks, placement/compaction of stone base, and asphalt placement and quality control testing of construction materials, as the workload requires. They will also monitor the condition and effectiveness of soil erosion protective measures and provide direction to the contractor on the requirements of the construction plans. This employee must establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contracted in the course of work. The position will require direct contact with the public in order to provide information, answer questions, investigate complaints, and recommend corrective action. The employee in this position must be willing to be cross-trained and utilized within the "Construction Inspections Section" in all phases of infrastructure construction if called upon. The applicant should be able to perform the physical requirements of the position which include standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs. The position requires working more than 2/3 of the time in outdoor weather conditions.

- High School/GED with 1-3 years of roadway and sidewalk construction experience working with construction plans, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and field stakeouts
- Or No High School/GED with 5-7 years of roadway and sidewalk construction experience working with construction plans, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and field stakeouts
- Valid Driver's License
- Experience using Microsoft Office Software Suite
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering
- Experience in Public Works construction and managing/inspecting public roadway and sidewalk projects
- NCDOT and ACI Level I Concrete Field Technician Certification (MUST attach a copy of certification with application)
- NCDOT Roadway QMS Certification
