As a Construction Inspector – Utilities, you’ll be on the frontlines of our city’s infrastructure development—overseeing construction work, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring water and sewer systems meet all regulatory requirements. If you’re looking for meaningful work with real impact, this is the role for you.About the Role: As a Construction Inspector – Utilities, your primary responsibility will be inspecting water and sewer construction projects that are being added to the City’s infrastructure. You’ll ensure projects meet all applicable plans, specifications, and contract requirements. You will maintain written records of daily construction activities and work closely with contractors, engineers, and the public to guarantee the highest standards of construction quality and safety.Key responsibilities include: Verifying the proper installation of water and sewer lines, including alignment, elevation, and grade.Documenting all inspection findings and coordinating water line chlorination and bacteriological sampling.Interacting directly with the public to provide information and resolve concerns.Maintaining cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders.Obtaining North Carolina Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Board (NCWTFOCB) Certifications in both Water Distribution and Sewer Collection within 18 months of employment.Being cross-trained for all aspects of the Construction Inspections Section.This position requires physical activity including standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs., and more than two-thirds of your work will be outdoors.Women, Minorities, and Veterans Are Encouraged to Apply!This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
