Compensation and Benefits:
Hiring Salary Range: $42,985 - $48,352 Full Salary Range: $42,985 - $65,759 Annually, depending on qualifications.

The Transportation Department's Traffic Operations Division is seeking a dedicated and skilled Mechanic for Signs & Markings. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our city's traffic systems.

About the Role: The Mechanic for Signs & Markings will be responsible for fabricating, installing, modifying, maintaining, upgrading, and repairing traffic signs and pavement markings. This position involves the operation and maintenance of various equipment, tools, and test instruments. You will also be expected to set up work zones, lane closures, and flagging operations in compliance with local, state, and federal standards. Accurate record-keeping and (on-call) emergency response duties after hours are essential aspects of this role. The physical requirements of this job include but are not limited to: stooping, bending kneeling, walking, sitting and standing for long periods of time, eye-hand coordination, climbing and heavy lifting up to 100 lbs. on a consistent basis. Must be able to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.
This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).What You Bring:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED with 1-3 years of experience in traffic signs and markings or a similar industry (e.g., mechanic, technician, equipment operator)
- "OR" No High School Diploma/GED with 5 to 7 years of experience in traffic signs and markings or similar industry (i.e., mechanic, technician, equipment operator, etc.)
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work Zone Certification ITRE (Intermediate Work Zone Safety)
- Class B or Restricted Class A Commercial Driver's License “OR” ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
