What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator position at City of Greenville, NC?
The purpose of this position is to properly operate a variety of light to medium-duty construction equipment and to perform routine and emergency repairs to equipment and vehicles in the Street Division. This position operates necessary construction or maintenance equipment on-site, relocates necessary materials to and from the site, and occasionally oversees the work crew.

Examples of Duties
- Operates light to medium construction or maintenance equipment such as, but not limited to, asphalt rollers, tractors, backhoes, skid steer loaders, pothole patcher, crack sealer, cement mixers, dump trucks, salt spreaders, and brine sprayers;
- Assists crew with manual labor efforts of raking and shoveling asphalt, rolling asphalt, pouring concrete, and mixing cement;
- Provides aid to other crews in the execution of various assigned tasks;
- Completes routine maintenance, pre-trip inspections, reports equipment failures, and repairs or replaces worn or damaged parts;
- Supervises work crew occasionally;
- Provides barriers and visual notifications in order to maintain worksite safety;
- Prepares daily worksheets and reports all incidents or accidents immediately to a supervisor;
- Supports other departments with special events, inclement weather prevention, and post-storm cleanup; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED; and
- One year experience operating various light to medium-duty construction equipment.
- Six months supervisory or crew leader experience (preferred but not required).

Special Requirements
- Valid N.C. Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.
- Valid N.C. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within six months of hire and an acceptable driving record.
