What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Art Instructors position at City of Greenville?
The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department is currently recruiting Summer Camp Art Instructors to provide daily guidance and instruction to campers. This position will lead camp activities and actively participate with campers while planning and directing a portion of daily art activities. Other duties include assisting other counselors, maintaining attendance records, and other paperwork as required.
Minimum Age: 18 years old (as of May 13, 2025)
Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour
> Famous Artist Camp has 5 week-long sessions which run from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
All staff are expected to attend mandatory training in May 2025.

Summer Art Camps Dates (Monday – Friday):
- June 23 - June 27, 2025
- July 7 - July 11, 2025
- July 14 - July 18, 2025
- July 21 - July 25, 2025
- July 28 - August 1, 2025
> Famous Artist Camp has 5 week-long sessions which run from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
> Young Potter’s Wheel Camp is 5 weeks long and runs from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Instructors are not required to work every session of camp to be considered for a position.All staff are expected to attend mandatory training in May 2025.
- Prior art experience in painting, drawing, sewing, clay, or crafts;
- Ability to throw on the potter's wheel is required for the Youth Pottery Wheel; and
- Valid CPR and First Aid/AED certifications are required before the start of camp.
Preferred, not required qualifications:
- Major in college art education and/or graduate of a four-year degree program in art.
- Previous experience working with children aged 6 - 15 years old in art, recreation, or a music setting.
Knowledge of:
- elements & principles of art
- classroom management techniques
- painting, drawing, sewing, clay, and crafts
- multi-media art and sculpture
- plan and execute lesson plans
- educate & guide campers with projects
