The Transportation Operations Division within the City of Gresham is seeking candidates for an entry-level role as a Public Utility Worker 1. This is a limited-duration assignment that includes full benefits and is anticipated for a length of 2 years from the date of hire based on available funding and budget approval. This position will assist the Public Utility Worker 2’s in a team environment, working outdoors in various weather conditions to perform labor intensive activities to maintain and repair the City’s transportation infrastructure. The Transportation Operations crew is overseen by a Transportation Superintendent and consists of 3 Public Works Field Operations Supervisors, 2 Public Utility Worker Seniors, and 19 Public Utility Worker 2’s.

What you will get to do:
- Form, pour, and finish concrete
- Perform general shop maintenance
- Light power tool and small equipment maintenance
- Shop and yard maintenance
- Run parts and materials errands
- Shuttle vehicles to and from the Fleet shop
- Repair and maintain roadways, bridges and rights-of-way
- Assist the Public Utility Worker 2’s in installing, maintaining, sealing, and repairing roadways, sidewalks, and bridges
- Assist in removing damaged road areas for excavation
- Prepare streets for overlays and slurry seals
- Patching, fill potholes, pave and sweep
- Assist in fabricating and installing street signs, barricades, traffic control devices and pavement markings
- Paint traffic markings, dividers, and parking spaces
- Assist in maintaining City lots and rights-of-way to include removal of debris and garbage
- Mow, spray, pull weeds, and trim vegetation
- Assist in collecting and maintaining data of street signs, traffic control devices, pavement markings, and others
- Control traffic for emergencies and daily tasks
- Assist with snow removal operations
- Provide service to the public
- Assist with responding to and resolving inquiries and complaints regarding transportation related public works matters and service requests
- Provide information within scope of knowledge or refers to other, more experienced transportation crew members

Work Schedule:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Up to one year of related experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Valid driver’s license
- Good driving record (according to our driving matrix below)
Required certifications:
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required within 6 months of hire.
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Confined Space certification is required within 6 months of hire.
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Competent Person certification is required within 6 months of hire.
- Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Flagger certification is required within 6 months of hire
DRIVING MATRIX: You will be disqualified from this process if you possess any of the following driving infractions:
- A major traffic offense or accident that results in death or major injury.
- Driving under the influence (DUI) offense within the last 5 years.
- Have more than 3 moving violations within a 3-year period or more than 2 within a one- year period.
- Have more than 2 accidents within a 3-year period.

Salary : $47,881 - $61,104
