What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Operator position at CITY OF GRIFFIN?
This position is responsible for the 24-hour monitoring and operation of equipment for the City?s Electric, Water, and Wastewater Systems; monitoring weather conditions and alerting appropriate personnel of severe weather; utilizing the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system; dispatching emergency after-hours crews for the Electric, Water, Wastewater, and Public Works Departments; and providing general customer assistance during and after normal business hours. Systems Operators primarily work alone and follow a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential duties include:
- Operates Outage Management System, including but not limited to: Confirming, updating and canceling predicted outages; dispatching trouble and reporting anomalies to appropriate personnel; communicating with customers, co-workers and supervisors via phone, text and email; running system reports; performing switching within OMS/GIS; maintaining accurate customer contact information.
- Operates Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System, including but not limited to: Authorizing clearances for high-voltage hot line work; monitoring distribution feeder status and telemetry; operating feeder breakers and related relays; running alarm and database reports; monitoring SEL_TEAM messages and providing appropriate response; communicating with MEAG Power in the event of authorized and unauthorized substation entry, substation equipment failure, high side transmission emergencies, etc.
- Utilizes The City of Griffin?s work order system to create and maintain work orders and service requests; ensure accurate reporting and inventory records; search customer and location history, etc.
- Monitors electric, water and wastewater systems for the City of Griffin and dispatches or relays information to appropriate personnel as necessary.
- Utilizes ArcReader GIS to assist field personnel with locating field devices, equipment and other geographical information.
- Monitors weather conditions and notifies appropriate personnel of potential inclement weather.
- Utilizes Cogsdale CIS to assist customers with payment status, after hours reconnects, processing releases for power, assisting field personnel and maintaining OMS contact information, etc.
- Utilizes The City of Griffin?s AMI System to connect and disconnect electric meters, view customer usage data, perform real-time meter reads, etc.
- Dispatches emergency locate and utility damage tickets to Utility Locators and creates emergency locate requests when necessary.
- Provides support and tracks field personnel locations to ensure safety, improve outage response time, and enhance workflow efficiency.
- Communicates with 911 Dispatch to report and receive information on hazardous field conditions.
- Communicates with MEAG Power regarding authorized and unauthorized substation entry, substation equipment alarms and emergencies, load switching, etc.
- Required to complete a designated amount of field training hours.
- Must be able to operate various apparatuses within Griffin Power?s electric system.
- Answers customer complaints both during and after normal business hours.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
