POSITION SUMMARY:
FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER: This is a regular, full-time position, eligible for benefits. Upon hire, there will be a thorough training program as mandated by P.O. S.T. Under general supervision, on a regular or assigned shift, this position will perform a variety of patrol and related duties, to include patrolling the City; enforcing Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances; providing information and assistance to the public; other related work, as assigned.
POLICE RECRUIT:
To learn and participate in established curriculum and subsequently pass all tests given by training staff, including academics and manipulative skills such as defensive tactics, firing weapons with accuracy, and driving at high speeds on a set test course while maintaining control. Police Recruit is the entry-level position to a career in municipal law enforcement. After successfully completing the Police Academy, the Police Recruit will then automatically promote to the classification of Peace Officer.
Additional Duties: Complete EMS training at the entry-level job duties and responsibilities required by an EMS worker within fire and ambulance services, and various non-traditional EMS roles such as providing medical coverage for large scale public events.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER
- High School Diploma, or equivalent (GED)
- Basic Certificate issued by the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), ability to requalify for P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate or graduation from an accredited police academy.
- Valid California Driver’s License, Class “C”, with a clean, satisfactory driving record
POLICE RECRUIT:
- High school Diploma, or equivalent (GED)
- Must be at least 20 years of age at time of application and 21 years of age at time of appointment.
- Meet citizenship requirements as defined under California Government Code Sections 1031 (a) and 1031.5
- Must not have been convicted of or pled guilty (or enter a plea of Nolo Contendere) to any felony charges.
- Valid California Driver’s License, Class “C’
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of a background investigation, polygraph, psychological examination, and pre-employment medical examination which includes physical agility and alcohol and drug screening.
