GRADE AND RANGE : Grade 5 TECHNICIAN I : $15.68 - $23.83
Grade 7 TECHNICIAN II : $17.12 - $26.02
Grade 9 TECHNICIAN III : $18.69 - $28.90
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Semi-skilled entry level position requiring a minimum of experience. Aptitude and willingness to learn are desired attributes. Previous utility installation experience would be an asset. This position involves the installation of gas mains, and service lines. This position is designed to familiarize and provide the experience necessary to move to more positions within the department. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Natural Gas Supervisor or designee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists and performs routine maintenance of gas mains, and services with a more skilled employee.
2. Installs and repairs gas mains and services, maintain and inspect well points, pumps, and generators used for the installation of mains and services.
3. Digs and refills ditches, loads dirt, asphalt, clay, gravel and other construction materials.
4. Locate gas mains and service lines subject to the requirements of the Florida Underground Damage and Safety Act.
5. Initiate gas service and perform customer appliance safety checks as well as lighting of various gas appliances.
6. Read and perform maintenance on gas meters.
7. Perform leak repairs on gas meters and service lines with minimum supervision.
8. May assist with the installation of valves and regulator stations.
9. After sufficient experience and training, perform stand-by emergency call duty.
10. Become familiar with the City of Gulf Breeze Emergency Gas Plans within three (3) months of employment.
11. Employee is responsible for completing course work and maintaining a current Operator Qualification status.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of basic materials, methods, practices and equipment used in natural gas, facilities for installation, maintenance, and repair activates
2. Ability to communicate verbally using the English language.
3. Ability to perform heavy manual labor and operate basic hand tools.
4. Operate basic hand tools using hands, fingers to hold and feel, reach with hands and arms.
5. Realizes that there are some dangers associated with operating and maintaining natural gas systems and following established procedures to eliminate risk.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
2. Experience in heavy manual labor and the use of hand and light power tools preferred.
3. Valid Florida driver’s license.
4. Must pass post-offer FDOT drug screening, post-offer physical and Fit for Duty Employment Testing.
PHYSICAL SKILLS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, smell, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, and crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
An employee in this job is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and has risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
