The Water Production Superintendent This is a responsible supervisory position with administrative work in directing the overall operation and maintenance of water treatment plants, water storage tanks, pumping stations used in the production, storage and delivery of a safe, potable water supply for customer use.
The water treatment plants involve facilities for mixing, flocculation, clarification, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection and pumping with a total rated capacity of 20 MGD. Water storage facilities include both raw and finished reservoirs, standpipes, tanks and hortonsheres.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Water Department Manager. Position exercises supervision over supervisory, technical, and laboring personnel.
Education: A.A. degree in Civil or Sanitary Engineering or equivalent. An applicant for promotion may be considered for this position with a minimum High School diploma or equivalency and a satisfactory completion of a Maryland Sanitary Technology Course or equal.
Experience:Ten (10) years of progressive experience in Civil or Sanitary Engineering
occupations with five (5) years in a supervisory capacity. An applicant for promotion shall have ten (10) years of progressive experience in the operation of the water production, storage and pumping facilities for which this position is intended with five (5) years in a current supervisory position.
License & Certification: Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification by the State of Maryland, and the ability to obtain Maryland Water Plant Superintendent Certification within one year of employment is required. Valid vehicle operator license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with City policy.
