What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Code Compliance Inspector position at City of Hallandale Beach?
Under the authority of the Chief Building Official, employee performs technical and investigative work, which involves enforcing and monitoring compliance of municipal property standards, ordinances and regulations and the permitting process. Conduct investigations resulting from anonymous, identified or third-party allegations and complaints. Work is performed in strict conformance with laws, regulations and departmental policy. Performs other essential duties in support of departmental objectives to ensure the safety and welfare of the general public and business community. Work is performed under limited supervision with moderate latitude. Position relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.
This position will work in coordination with the Code Compliance and Building Inspection Divisions.

High school diploma or GED. Five (5) years’ construction experience in a structural discipline, three (3) of which must have been a supervisory capacity; or be a Florida registered Architect or Structural Engineer having practiced for at least three (3) years; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Note: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Building Construction may substitute up to three (3) years of the construction experience requirement. An Associate Degree may substitute up to one (1) year of the construction experience requirement.
If an applicant is not a Florida Registered Architect or a Professional Engineer, the applicant must possess a current Certificate of Competency as a Residential, Building or General Contractor issued by:
- Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board.
- Broward County Central Examiners Board or Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board Block Proctored issued on or after January 1, 1968.
Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (level to be determined by job classification requirements) or obtain within one year of employment. Must obtain Level 1 F.A.C.E certification within one year of employment. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license with satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to, evaluation of training and experience; psychological evaluation; polygraph examination; background investigation; medical evaluation; controlled substance screen.
