Performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities including police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and other traditional and non-traditional related law enforcement activities.

(Non Certified Police Officer) Successfully complete rigorous academic and physical training, through an established Police Academy curriculum.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of a Training Advisor, Police Officer and other Police Personnel, with additional supportive supervision from the command staff of the police department.

NON-CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICERS

3. Proof of Education (High School Diploma or GED
4. Copy of Armed Service Discharge Papers (DD214, if applicable)

6. Copy of CJBAT if applicable

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 19 years or older at the time of employment;
  • Be a United States Citizen;
  • High school Diploma or GED;
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State of Florida driver's license;
  • Have not been convicted of any felony or of any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement;
  • Have good moral character;
  • Must be able to read and write the English language.
  • Obtain certification from the Federal Emergency Management Administration, National Incident Management System IS-700 Introduction to NIMS, IS-800 National Response Plan, IS-100 Introduction to Incident Command, and IS-200 Incident Command for Single Resources.
  • Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to, or is found guilty of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, not-withstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
  • Have never received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
  • Passing Swim Test scores from Broward College Institute of Public Safety 
  • CJBAT scores for applicable candidates (Veterans and anyone holding an Associates Degree or higher are exempt)
  • Passing Basic Motor Skills Test (BMST) from Broward College Institute of Public Safety

ADDITIONAL PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST MAY BE REQUIRED

Per Civil Service Rules Sec. 21-151: The board may refuse to examine, or after examination may decline to certify as eligible for employment, any applicant for the following reason(s):

• If the applicant, within the six (6) months prior to the date of the examination, failed to attain a passing grade in an examination for the same or a like position.
• If the applicant is missing any of the established preliminary requirements for the examination or the position applied for.
• If the applicant does not meet the physical requirements of the position sought, provided that such requirements are specifically related to the position and are consistent with business necessity. nothing contained in this subsection shall be utilized to defeat the purpose and intent of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.
• If the applicant is addicted to drugs or intoxicating beverages.
• If the applicant has been convicted of an offense or crime involving moral turpitude or of dishonorable conduct.
• If the applicant is considered by the board to be, for good and reasonable cause, unfit for employment with the city.
• If the applicant has been dismissed from previous employment with the city for flagrant delinquency or misconduct, or resigned after charges have been brought in accordance with the city's charter, or has been or may be subsequently dismissed upon such charge.
• If the applicant has made a false statement with regards to any material fact in his application.
• If the applicant fails to report promptly after receiving notification of the time and place of an examination.

Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to, evaluation of training and experience, background investigation; medical evaluation; controlled substance screen.

Applicants are required to sign an affidavit for non-use of tobacco products in order to be considered for employment.  

 

Veteran's Preference Applies:  The City of Hallandale Beach values the service that veterans and their family members have given to our country, and as such, proactively recruits and hires veterans and qualified spouses to the greatest extent possible.  Certain service members and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such service members and veterans, receive preference and priority, and certain service members may be eligible to receive waivers for post-secondary educational requirements.  To obtain veteran's preference, applicants MUST submit a copy of separation papers (DD214), Veterans’ Preference Certification form and meet eligibility requirements as stipulated by the Florida Statutes. Starting salary for Non-Certified Police Recruit: $44,678.00 (WHILE ATTENDING ACADEMY)
