Function

The purpose of this class is to provide the duties of intake of persons diverted to the Community Corrections Division by the courts. Provides support and assistance to the Pretrial / Probation Officers. Performs duties under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor who provides guidance and direction through periodic discussions and consultations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or completion of a GED with some college credits in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Social Work, or related field. Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Social Work, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in correctional services, community supervision, or law enforcement preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
  • Must possess or obtain VCIN certification within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

  • May require evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
