Function
The City of Hampton is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Deputy Director of the Hampton History Museum. This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing the curatorial and interpretive work of the museum, ensuring the preservation, collection, and documentation of artifacts and historical materials significant to Hampton's rich heritage. The Deputy Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the museum's exhibitions and programs, fostering community engagement, and advancing the museum's mission to preserve and share the diverse history of the City of Hampton.
This position manages the general operations of facilities within historic assets division for the Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services (PRLS) Department and supports education, design, research and marketing efforts. This class works under the supervision of the Executive Director of Hampton's Historic Assets, PRLS, and develops and implement programs within organizational policies, and report major activities to senior level administrators through conferences and reports. Provides supervision to facilities, collections and exhibits staff.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Archeology, or related field of study.
- Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of full-time equivalent progressively responsible experience in in museum curating and administration.
- Master's Degree and experience curating in a municipal setting is preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
