The purpose of the class is to provide service coordination and case management to juveniles before Juvenile Intake and the Hampton Juvenile Court. Represents the Hampton Court Service Unit (CSU) on the Hampton Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT). This position performs duties under the general supervision of the Hampton Court Service Unit Director or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in the Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Corrections, Social Work, Sociology, Human Resources, or related field of study.
- Master’s degree in human services field or discipline is preferred.
- Some experience in working directly with at-risk juvenile populations or juvenile offenders and families is required; knowledge and experience in the use of evidence-based practices that include motivational interviewing, counseling, and work with at-risk youth and families are essential.
- Experience may substitute for education on the basis of one year of appropriate experience for each year of education.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- This position is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of juvenile and/or criminal justice process and local judicial system, family dynamics and the risk factors
- associated with the juvenile delinquency and continuum of services and programs available to court involved juveniles.
- Proficient in automated financial systems, as well as computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, state and local web-based applications, and data management systems.
- Ability to make independent decisions; interpret and apply complex policy procedures.
- Position requires the willingness to respond to customer needs with patience, tact, and attention to detail.
- Position requires contact with court involved juveniles and their parents, courts, defense attorneys, and service and treatment providers.
- Requires working some non-standard hours to include late evenings.
- Requires frequent phone contact and some home visits in potentially hazardous areas.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
