Function
Assists in the operation and maintenance of the box office, administrative offices and/or special events in a performing arts theatre and visual arts center.
Examples of Work
- Assists in the operation of the box office by issuing and accounting for tickets, operating the computerized Ticketmaker.com system, drafts and fills in forms concerning daily reports on box office sales; balances accounts and ledgers and accounts for all revenue from ticket sales, concession sales and miscellaneous income developed by the Theatre.
- Assists administrative offices with routine clerical, recordkeeping or related duties as needed.
- Counts and verifies money receipts from ticket sellers, and balances daily reports.
- In the absence of the Box Office Manager, drafts financial statements and settlement sheets for all Theatre events, orders checks for payment of agents for settlement of attractions at the American Theatre.
- Performs other related duties in the box office, American Theatre administrative offices, Charles Taylor Arts Center or in support of special events as needed.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or successful completion of GED.
- Some customer relations experience to include direct customer contact, problem identification and resolution required; good knowledge of principles and practices of bookkeeping and financial management.
- Must be able to foster effective working relationships with diverse populations and maintain good relations with internal and external customers.
- Requires the ability to analyze customer's needs and to determine service requirements and the most effective method of achieving customer delight.
- Effective communication is essential both orally and in writing including the ability to speak clearly and precisely.
- Requires ability to use a personal computer; a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software preferred; must have ability to learn customized ticket sales software.
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Virginia and must have a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton criteria.
- An acceptable combination of education and experience that qualifies an applicant may be considered in lieu of the more specific requirements outlined above.
Features
- Perform duties under the general supervision of the Director of Hampton Arts Commission or other management personnel as designated by the Director.
- The incumbent will be assigned to divisions on an as needed basis determined by schedule of events. Considerable contact with the general public and the arts community. Duties are performed during office hours, nights, weekends and holidays as required; weekly hours vary according to the schedule of events.
- This is a non-exempt position.
