What are the responsibilities and job description for the Court Security position at City of Hampton?
The Court Services Officer holds the rank of deputy and performs duties under the direct supervision of the Sergeant and above is accountable for use of delegated authority. Pursuant to §15.2–1603 of the Code of Virginia incumbent is appointed at will and serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff.
- Demonstrates positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public
- Screens all persons entering the Judicial Center for the purpose of ensuring the absence of weapons. Checks/searches handbags, briefcases, packages, and other items entering the Judicial Center.
- Provides security from disruption and violence in assigned courtrooms and on the premises of the Judicial Center.
- Escorts inmates to and from the courts and the Adult Detention Center when necessary.
- Conducts opening ceremonies for all courts.
- When directed, performs special or security assignments.
- Transports inmates when needed
- Responsible for conducting vehicle inspections and reporting deficiencies
- Adheres to all policies, procedures, guidelines and directives of the office
- Dependable and meets acceptable attendance requirements at all times
- Protects confidential information by preventing unauthorized release, both verbal and/or writing
- Disseminates information as it is given by the Department’s Administration
- When applicable, commend and/or follow disciplinary actions for all deputy sheriffs
- Follows all Federal, State and Local laws
- Performs any other tasks as required
- Thorough knowledge of all laws, rules, regulations and procedures applicable to the execution and administration of legal process
- Comprehensive knowledge of court procedures
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with city and court officials, employees and the general public
- Ability to oversee the preparation and maintenance of legal instruments; related records and reports
- Knowledge of use of force techniques and ability to use force when applicable
- Appropriate use of firearms and other facility issued or approved equipment

- Ability to read and comprehend laws, ordinances and orders

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma/GED and current Courtroom security DCJS certification.
