The purpose of the class is to provide supervision, case management, and counseling interventions to juveniles placed in pre and post dispositional detention and outreach programs by the Hampton Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. Makes recommendations to the Hampton Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court concerning appropriateness for release and conditions for community supervision. Completes detention visits and interviews with parents and documents work in automated case management system under supervision of the Hampton Court Services Unit Director or designee.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Corrections, Social Work, Sociology, Human Resources, or a closely related field of study.
- One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience working directly with at-risk juvenile populations or juvenile offenders and families.
- Knowledge of the following is required: juvenile and/or criminal justice process and local judicial system; family dynamics and the risk factors associated with juvenile delinquency; the continuum of services and programs available to court involved juveniles.
- May substitute experience for education on the basis of one year of appropriate experience for each year of education.
- Must have the ability to use a computer for case management; Microsoft office experience preferred.
- Must be able to make decisions independently, interpret and apply complex policy procedures.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week that may include late evenings and/or weekends.
- Requires frequent phone contact with parents and frequent detention contact with juvenile placed in detention, and occasional home visits to potentially hazardous neighborhoods.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
