What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recruiter position at City of Hampton?
- Serves as an HSO ambassador within the community. Recruits, determines applicant eligibility, counsels applicants on agency programs and career options, and manages the application process to facilitate qualified applicants joining the HSO.
- Screen potential candidates over the phone or other social media outlets. Follow up on training and certification requirements needed to become a correctional officer.
- Analyzes, plans, and executes lead generation activities sufficient to support the agency’s mission and recruiting goals. Accomplishes assigned quantitative and qualitative recruitment objectives (e.g., application processing cycle times, position fill rates, accuracy and completeness of hiring packets, etc.).
- Plans and conducts a variety of HSO recruiting and awareness programs. Works actively with the Community Relations department.
- Conducts daily area and out-of-area prospecting and follow ups to include but not limited to tools such as referrals, internet/social media, and phone. Establishes and maintains close relationships and coordination with middle and high schools, colleges, personnel managers, parents of prospective applicants, religious and civic leaders, public officials, and others to present the HSO as an employment and career opportunity. Presents formal and informal talks on HSO careers to audiences such as civic and service, religious organizations, and student bodies.
- Search employment databases for past applicants and reach out to notify them of openings, and invite them to re-apply.
- Establishes liaison with local radio, television, and newspaper entities. Writes, edits, distributes, displays or presents recruiting publicity material for use by local communications and print media entities. Lends HSO recruiting exhibits to civic, fraternal, religious and service organizations, and educational institutions.
- Assists in market research and analysis of geographic recruiting territories and makes appropriate recommendations to HSO leadership.
- Create job posting on social media and job boards.
- Matches applicant’s interests with career management fields needed by the agency.
- Promotes the HSO with enthusiasm and recruits with integrity.
- Provide updates on the recruitment program.
- Provide orientations, workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions that contribute to sound recruitment practices
- Assists the Human Resources Manager with managing recruitment efforts, writing reports and presentations, and making travel arrangements.
- Network to establish new relationships and maintain existing relationships with both internal and external clients.
- Travel in and out of state for recruitment efforts.

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Criminal Justice or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years recruiting experience in a correctional, law enforcement, military environment, or a similar role. Experience may substitute for education on the basis of one year of appropriate experience for each year of education.

HSO recruiters are expected to look and act professionally, and to make a good impression on potential recruits and their families. Agency grooming and uniform standards must be maintained.
Salary : $36,692 - $69,018
