Recreation and Parks Maintenance Laborer

Summary:

Full-time maintenance laborer position is responsible for maintenance and repair of all recreation and parks facilities and grounds as well as other various city facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs a variety of duties relative to maintaining playing fields for scheduled events
• Performs such duties as mowing grass, lining, and dragging ball fields, constructing, and maintaining fences
• Responsible for all janitorial tasks in relation to all recreation and parks facilities as well as certain city facilities
• Maintains all city parks and playgrounds
• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all equipment such as truck, tractors, mowers, field machines, etc.
• Ability to utilize various tools and equipment in the performance of the job
• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all recreation and parks buildings and playgrounds
• Fosters a safe environment for both departmental staff and the public
• Cooperates with other city departments and staff
• Maintains a cordial relation with public and co-workers
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements for the position: Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License; High School diploma and one to two years’ experience in electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and plumbing operations; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds, frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This position is mainly out-of-doors with limited indoor associated functions.

Starting salary range: $32,746. to mid-range $35,791. The City of Hanahan offers a competitive benefit package including health insurance and participation in the State Retirement plan (PEBA.)
