Job Title: Wastewater Utility Coordinator

Location: Harrison, Ohio

Pay Rate: $37.50 per hour

Work Hours: Mon-Fri 7:00am-3:330pm

General Nature of Work: This is specialized work in the treatment operation of the wastewater treatment facility. The Wastewater Utility Coordinator is responsible for coordinating jobs and activities, performing tests and inspections on wastewater materials/equipment, and ensuring the proper handling of materials along with supervision of employees. Duties are performed under the limited supervision of the department director.

Equipment and Job Location: Work sites include the wastewater plant and collection network. Equipment used includes laboratory equipment, a variety of hand and mechanical tools, and analytical instruments used in quality assurance measurements.

Essential Functions – Examples of Duties:

• Assist in planning, scheduling, supervising, and performing programs and activities of the wastewater plant in accordance with professional standards and departmental policy.
• Prepare laboratory for various tests and coordinate treatment of wastewater, ensuring compliance with NPDES discharge permit limits.
• Perform laboratory tests on wastewater samples as needed.
• Assist in training employees, inspect vehicles for repair and replacement, and make recommendations to the department director.
• Operate all necessary treatment equipment.
• Monitor test results for EPA compliance.
• Coordinate and maintain yearly inventory, fixed assets program, sludge/land application program, and other related activities.
• Order supplies for the wastewater plant.
• Respond to complaints from citizens and oversee contracted work.
• Handle calls and visits from sales representatives.
• Perform related duties as directed.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, supervisory personnel, fellow employees, other city employees, and the general public.
• Thorough knowledge of techniques and procedures needed to accurately assess and control the sanitary conditions of the city's wastewater system.
• Thorough knowledge of the operations and care of a wastewater treatment facility and all related equipment and supplies.
• Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety practices necessary for the safe performance of work duties.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work under the limited supervision of the immediate department director.

Desirable Training and Experience:

• Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent, supplemented by some experience in wastewater treatment operations; or any combination of training and experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Necessary Special Requirements:

• Possession of or ability to obtain promptly, a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License as required.
• Possession of a Class III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate.
• Ability to be called out during non-working hours and to work weekends and holidays when scheduled.
