The Public Utilities Trainee position is a temporary, seasonal position (no benefits) with a preferred hiring rate of $14.78 per hour. Prior experience is not required as paid, on-the-job training will be provided. This particular Public Utilities Trainee position for the 2025 seasonal period (anticipated to last through September 2025) will assist with Utility Billing Services, with a primary focus on the installation of meter box lids in preparation for the upcoming Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project. Flexible task assignments may be available if the selected candidate has prior experience in related field work.

Physical Requirements: This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and wearing a respirator.
Minimum Qualifications
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the 10th grade.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at hire date, approximately 3 weeks after initial application date.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Availability to work up to 40 hours per week at least through (September 2025).
The selected candidates for these positions will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:
- DMV record review;
- Job-specific physical; and
- Criminal background check.
