General Definition of Work
The Aquatics Facility Operator assists in overseeing the operations of the Outdoor Aquatics Center for the Harrisonville Parks and Recreation Department. This position plays a key role in supervising water safety instructors, lifeguards, and other part-time and seasonal staff while ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for patrons.
Supervision is under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator.
Essential Functions

- Opens or closes the Outdoor Aquatics Center as needed.
- Coordinates and oversees scheduling and communicating with participants.
- Assists with the training, supervision, and disciplinary actions of part-time and seasonal aquatics staff.
- Supports the day-to-day aquatics operations, including staff scheduling, assigning chorine checks, managing weather-related closures or delays at the outdoor pool.
- Assists with seasonal pool opening and closing procedures.
- Serves as the acting Aquatics Specialist in their absence.
- Monitors pool equipment, chemical levels, and inventory.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
- Maintains a professional image within the community.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of aquatics experience.
Special Qualifications
- Current Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain in 3 months of hire).
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
- Must possess and maintain a drivers license.
Schedule and Availability
- Must be available to work weekends and adjust to seasonal scheduling.
- Must be available to work holidays.
Starting pay is $18.00 per hour.
