Performs work participating and supervising electrical line operations, crew, and the use of equipment, ensuring adherence and compliance with safety rules and regulations, training staff in the field and on the proper use of equipment, tools, and materials, building new power lines for future expansion, maintaining service for substations, performing switching on circuits and sub stations for electric department, creating work orders for live pole change outs, meeting with contractors to supply and build their needs for projects, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the direction of the Electric Supervisor.
Supervision exercised over assigned staff.
Essential Functions
Provides recommendations on hiring, terminating, promoting/demoting, and adjusting grievances; assigns, leads, trains, and inspects the work of staff; suspends staff as needed; rewards and disciplines; coaches, counsels, and evaluates staff performance; develops staff schedules; ensures deadlines for the department are met; supervises daily operations.
Ensures Linemen follow and adhere to safety rules and regulations; handles and monitors all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulated equipment and materials.
Participates and supervises the installation, maintenance, and repairs of substations, transmission and distribution lines, lights, and fixtures; builds new power lines for future expansion.
Reduces outages in electric system by coordinating circuit switching to maintain voltage and system balance and to monitor substation transformer loading; inspects transmission and distribution systems to identify required maintenance.
Provides on the job field training for Apprentice Linemen and trains staff in the proper use of equipment, tools, and materials.
Creates work orders for live pole change outs and other services as needed.
Manage inventory by maintaining adequate stock levels and ensuring timely procurement of supplies; provide necessary materials and information to the Electric Supervsior as required to support efficient operations.keeps crew motived/buke
Meets with contractors to supply projects.
Performs storm cleanup and restoration for the City’s electrical systems.
Participates in discussions to plan projects and eliminate potential problems.
Resolves emergency situations after hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s or Technical degree and five or more years of experience as a Lineman switching live circuits and performing live line pole transfer with some supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in a supervisory or leadership role within an electrical utility is preferred.
Must Possess a comprehensive understanding of all meter applications, including single-phase and three-phase metering systems.
A valid issued Journeyman Card.
Must live within 30 minutes of Harrisonville, MO.
Special Qualifications
Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.
Strong communication skills to liaise with supervisors, crew members, and other stakeholders.
Ability to use computers and relevant software for reporting, scheduling, and record-keeping.
A valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) in the State of Missouri.
Pay ranges from $29.49 per hour up to $47.19 per hour, plus a generous benefit package.
