WATER OPERATOR Licensed Class C
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Public Works Superintendent and/or Water Foreman, performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled public works maintenance duties that includes the use of light to heavy equipment in all weather conditions. Responds to emergencies which effect City water such as water main breaks, weather emergencies including snow as needed at any time.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs maintenance and repair on all water related delivery systems throughout the City along with all municipal and EPA paperwork for these functions.
- Responsible for maintenance on the water and sewer systems including the pumping and lift stations, repair water main breaks, sewer force main breaks, as well as failures of valve, hydrants, buffalo-boxes, manholes and catch basins.
- Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment.
- Operates snow and ice abatement equipment and takes shifts on the snow fighting team.
- Must be available for emergency call-outs after hours and in all weather conditions.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Specialized training/trade school and license for C Operator Water License or greater.
- Knowledge and operating ability of light and heavy equipment, as well as snow plows.
- Must have a valid Class C Commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement strongly preferred.
SKILLS:
- The ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
- The ability to provide customer service to the residents in a helpful, polite manner.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- To be considered for this position, you must be 18 years of age.
- Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
