DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Assistant Chief assists the Fire Chief in planning, organizing, and directing programs that support the operations of Hastings Fire-Rescue. This includes, but is not limited to, the coordinating and conducting of activities within the support programs of Fleet, Facilities, Training, EMS, PPE, and Communications/Technology. The Assistant Chief formulates policy, procedure, goals, and budget recommendations for consideration by the Fire Chief and assists the Fire Chief in achieving these and other mandates of the City. The Assistant Chief will coordinate, schedule, and conduct training as it pertains to fire operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, or other related discipline. (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Minimum six years’ experience as a member of a career fire and EMS department with at least 3 years supervisory experience at the company officer level.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Graduation from National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program or Chief Fire Officer Designation preferred.
- Position subject to annual NFPA 1582 physical, department determined annual physical ability test, and SCBA fit test.
CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENCES
- NE Driver’s license, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Must maintain licensure throughout term of employment.
- NE EMT license, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire (Paramedic preferred). Must maintain licensure throughout term of employment.
- Verifiable training/education meeting NFPA 1021 standard for Fire Officer II (IFSAC or ProBoard Fire Officer III certification preferred)
- IFSAC/ProBoard Fire Instructor II. Fire Instructor III certification preferred.
- Live Fire Instructor within one year
- Hazardous Materials Technician certification preferred.
- ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800.

HOURS
This position is full-time and FLSA exempt.
Normal hours are Monday thru Friday, 8 am to 5 pm
but may be called to fire alarms or other emergencies
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
Yes, 30 minutes from duty station, per Google maps.
