DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Director, performs technical and supervisory work involving all aspects of the natural gas distribution system including system operation, system troubleshooting, and surface system maintenance. Ensures quality of department work and compliance with all local, state and federal rules, regulations and codes. Oversees reporting and inspections for state and federal compliance. Supervises the Gas Service group. Supervises and operates Peak Shaver Plant, Propane Storage Plant and Border Stations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Duties include ensuring accuracy and updates of department records for the gas distribution system, ensures department practices and procedures meet all standards, regulations and codes, assists in preparing one and six year capital improvement plans and budget, and assists in preparing specifications and bid documents, assists in preparation of DOT annual report for distribution gas system, and reviews, analyzes and ensures compliance with all local, state and federal standards, regulations and codes.
- Supervisory duties for all personnel in the gas service crew include scheduling, evaluating personnel, task assignments, discipline, conflict resolution, coaching & training, team building, interviewing for hiring personnel, investigating misconduct, setting performance standards, and oversee safety of crews and public.
- Interacts with gas current and potential customers. Schedules for installations and other work.
- Assists with preparation of the one- and six-year capital and maintenance budgets.
- Oversees cathodic protection program, leak detection program, meter and regulator maintenance, customer service and other operation.
- Maintain Operator Qualification records and compliance documentation for Gas Personnel.
- Supervises, trains, and operates propane air plants and works with EIC & Maintenance group to up-keep systems.
- Oversee reporting and inspections from State Fire Marshall and PHMSA.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to five years’ experience in planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance with a natural gas company or equivalent experience. Three years or more of supervisory experience is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid driver's license.
- Must possess a Master Gas Fitters license.

HOURS
FLSA exempt (salary) position; Monday - Friday, day hours.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
30 minutes from duty station, per Google Maps, within six months of hire.
