Description
The Police Officer Recruit position is a non-sworn training class for candidates qualified to learn the duties of a Police Officer. The Police Officer Recruit will undergo a formal, comprehensive training program in a POST Certified academy. Upon satisfactory completion of the training and graduation from the academy, the Recruit will be sworn in and reclassified as a regular police officer with full police officer salary and benefits. Failure to graduate from the academy within the prescribed training period will be cause for termination.
The qualifications of each applicant, as set forth in the application, will be reviewed by a screening committee. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. The selected candidate from this recruitment will be sponsored to attend the SRJC Police Academy in July 2025.
The salary for the Police Officer Recruit position is $7,642.41 monthly.
In addition to a competitive salary, retirement through CalPERS and generous benefits package, you may be eligible for a hiring incentive and relocation assistance :
- 3,500 upon hire for Police Academy Graduates and $3,500 upon successful completion of probation.
- Relocation Assistance up to $2,500 for candidates outside of a 100-mile radius of the city.

Prior to employment with the City of Healdsburg, candidates will be required to successfully complete the following : Chief's interview and evaluation; pass a thorough background investigation, psychological and polygraph testing and pass a full, complete physical examination prior to actual hire.
Examples of Duties
Police Officer : To perform general law enforcement and crime prevention duties; enforce laws and practice community policing; respond to calls for the protection of life and property; and to provide technical support to an assigned supervisor. This is the journey level in the single level Police Officer class. Incumbents initially perform the more routine duties assigned to positions in this class and work under close supervision. However, as experience is gained, incumbents are expected to perform the full range of duties as assigned with increasing independence.
