What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Code Compliance Officer (Part-Time) position at City of Henderson?
The City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill Part-Time vacancies for the classification of Park Code Compliance Officer in the Department of Community Development and Services. The consideration for hire list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Serves as an integral role in the Office of Public Response (OPR), a Division of the Community Development and Services Department, by performing daily patrols of City parks, trails, recreation centers, and plazas to educate and enforce Henderson Municipal Codes as they relate to park rules.
Under general supervision, identifies and prohibits the violation of applicable City ordinances; promotes public safety and provides customer service, information, and interpretive services to park users and the public; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; performs related duties as assigned.
VACANCY INFORMATION:
- This list may be utilized to fill future vacancies for both non-PERS eligible and PERS eligible positions. Information pertaining to the PERS status will be communicated to candidates during the interview process.
- This position is not eligible for any benefits
- Work schedule will consist of an average of 19 hours/week (non-PERS eligible position) or 29 hours/week (PERS Eligible position). Hours per week may increase or decrease based on Department need
- May be required to work a flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours. For this particular vacancy, the schedule will likely include weekends.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent may expect to primarily work independently in-field at varying City of Henderson parks, trails, recreation centers, plazas, etc. Incumbent will be exposed to varying weather conditions and outdoor environments including excessive heat and cold. Travel between worksites and locations will be necessary via City motor vehicle, bicycle, and/or cart. Air conditioning and heat may not be available via all methods of travel. Incumbent may also expect to encounter and interact with persons who are uncooperative, experiencing crisis, or experiencing homelessness.

- Graduation from high school, or the equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience in parks and recreation operations and/or code and law enforcement, experience must include issuing citations, writing reports, and documenting incidents
- Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
- Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
- May be required to complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every year. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
- Must possess or obtain and maintain, the following certifications, as indicated below and as a condition of continued employment:
- Criminal Justice Information Systems Certification within seven (7) days of appointment
- CPR Certification within six (6) months of appointment
- Desirable: Certification as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector with the International Code Council and/or American Association of Code Enforcement
- Desirable: Experience in code enforcement, law enforcement, or related government experience issuing citations, writing reports, and documenting incidents
