The City of High Point is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Safety Officer to lead the city's efforts in promoting a culture of safety and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. This role is integral in safeguarding our employees, fostering workplace wellness, and mitigating risk. Reporting to the Assistant HR Director, the Safety Officer will develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs that align with OSHA standards and city policies.
Essential Tasks
- Design, schedule, and facilitate engaging safety training sessions and workshops on OSHA regulations and other safety-related training for employees at all levels.
- Develop and deliver customized safety presentations tailored to the needs of diverse departments and job functions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and regulations and maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry requirements.
- Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, document compliance and recommend corrective actions.
- Responsible for annual facility inspection process and ensure abatements are complete and documented.
- Prepare and submit required OSHA documentation, reports, and incident logs.
- Create and enforce safety policies and procedures that align with legal and organizational standards.
- Investigates and refers general liability claims to insurance adjustor(s).
- Maintains comprehensive recordkeeping system.
- Reviews and helps update safety education curriculum.
- Lead initiatives to foster a proactive safety culture, ensuring employees are well-informed and engaged.
- Investigates reports of unsafe working conditions and OSHA violations and reports findings and recommendations to necessary parties.
- Investigates and reviews employee injury / incidents and vehicle / equipment collision / incidents to determine cause and implement plans for preventative measures.
- Assist with the motor vehicle accident prevention program and investigates and analyzes motor vehicle accident causes
- May assist in completing or coordinating the completion of accident reconstruction with third party vendors.
- Compile detailed reports and collaborate with department heads to improve workplace safety.
- Act as the primary liaison with external regulatory agencies and inspectors regarding safety compliance.
- Partner with HR and department leaders to integrate safety into city operations and employee wellness programs.
