Job Description
Performs difficult professional work in handling a variety of assignments in the areas of regional and local transportation planning in the Transportation Department and the High Point Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (HPMPO); does related work as required.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Planning Administrator. Supervision may be exercised over technical and clerical personnel during specific assignments.
Essential Tasks
- Prepares meeting materials for High Point MPO meetings and public outreach events.
- Assists with the development / refinement of the regional travel demand model.
- Assists the preparation a variety of long- and short-range planning documents including the Short-Range Transit Plan, Locally Coordinated Transit Plan, Comprehensive Transportation Plan, Metropolitan Transportation Plan, and Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program
- Serves on the City's Technical Review Committee and participates in the development plan review process on behalf of the Transportation Department.
- Presents development, annexation, and rezoning cases to the City's Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council.
- Coordinates Federally mandated transportation planning programs for the region.
- Liaisons between the transportation and planning departments on matters of mutual concern.
- Collects and analyses transportation engineering and planning data providing information for inclusion in technical reports and presentations.
- Coordinates the preparation of short and long-range transportation planning studies.
- Provides information to the general public on transportation programs.
- Manages special projects as assigned, including project feasibility and environmental studies, corridor identification and protection, land use, urban streetscape design, greenway planning and design, parking, and neighborhood traffic calming.
- Assists with third-party contractor oversight as necessary.
- Administers road planning, mapping, etc. consultant contracts for City.
- Prepares and gives presentations in front of citizen groups, elected officials, etc.
- Liaisons between other regional transportation planning bodies and City.
- Represents City and Transportation Department at various meetings.
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
- Assists with other Transportation Department tasks as needed.
