Your Purpose:
The Assistant Park Supervisor will be responsible for supervising day-to-day operations, enforcing lake and park rules and regulations. This position supervises full-time and part-time employees. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Parks Supervisor. Work schedule includes nights, weekends and holidays.What You’ll Do:
- Assists the Park Supervisor with managing the operation of a multi-purpose recreational facility which includes a lake, marina and related activities, amusements, concessions, and an aquatics facility;
- Plans and implements programs and special events;
- Coordinates with community groups and corporations to plan their outings and special events;
- Provides excellent customer service by phone, in person, and by email;
- Supervises both full-time and part-time staff members;
- Hires, trains, schedules, evaluates, and coaches staff members;
- Prepares and maintains records and reports on division activities and equipment maintenance;
- Reserves facilities, collects fees, and performs end of day closing using computer software program;
- Performs daily safety checks of patrol boat, fishing boats, pedal boats, canoes, life rings, life jackets, playgrounds and fire extinguishers;
- Patrols lake and monitors activities; responds to emergencies, provides rescue assistance if needed;
- Enforces lake and park rules and regulations; communicates with conservation enforcement officers involving game law violations;
- Opens and closes park gates and the park facilities;
- Assists with preparing and maintaining the park budget;
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- 4-year degree from accredited university in Parks and Recreation or other related field;
- Must have at least 2 years of municipal or county Parks and Recreation experience;
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License;
- Must obtain a Certified Pool Operator’s certification within the first year of employment;
- Must obtain a CPSI certification within the first year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in aquatics, programming, and marina operations preferred;
- Supervisory experience preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are both necessary to converse with internal and external customers including co-workers, citizens, and necessary to operate equipment safely and enforce safety regulations.
Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:
- Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see people at a distance to monitor their activity and ensure their safety around the marina, lake, and surrounding park area. Both eyes 20/25 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected
- Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see rental, permit and reservation forms, tickets, food items, cash register, dispensing machines and other work aids close at hand. Both eyes 20/25 corrected
- Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances when patrolling the lake and park for safety purposes and to ensure water safety.
Depth perception – 4 - Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span of area to cover marina and lake areas and observe people and their activities in order to enforce rules and regulations.
- Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye. Must be able to adjust eye lens to focus readily when glancing from near work (equipment operation, documents near at hand, etc.) to distance work (people walking around facility) to monitor activities and ensure safety at all areas.

Environmental ConditionsPhysical Surroundings
- The Assistant Park Supervisor is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot or cold environment. The position is best suited for someone who doesn’t mind getting dirty, sweaty, and likes working in and around water.
Hazards
- The Assistant Park Supervisor will be exposed to trash, garbage, lake water, cleaning solutions and various debris. Employee will be required to wear the proper PPE while working with chemicals. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.
