The City of High Point is currently seeking a Park Attendant/Operations that will greet and interact with tennis patrons of all ages and perform general work in the operations of a municipal park and tennis facility. They will assist with light court maintenance for the indoor and outdoor tennis courts such as filling coolers, sweeping and lining the clay courts, etc.; does related work as required.
Work is performed under regular supervision of the Tennis Director; however, employee must be able to work independently and schedule tennis lessons, programs and take court reservations. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays. 
 
  • Greets tennis patrons, takes reservations, collects and counts fees;
  • Records attendance according to number of children, adults, types of groups and classes;
  • Records tennis lesson registrations and receipts;
  • Assists in court rentals and preparation of daily expense reports and revenue deposits;
  • Opens and closes entrance area and controls entrance to tennis courts;
  • Prepares pro shop area for daily operation, places sale items and prices them;
  • Inventories items for stock and sale, orders needed items, loads and unloads items and equipment;
  • Assists in daily clean-up of pro shop, tennis courts and grounds;
  • Completes daily court maintenance including rolling, sweeping and watering soft courts;
  • Enforces that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
Qualifications
  • Formal education which includes basic arithmetic.
  • Must have good knowledge of tennis programs, court maintenance, shop maintenance, and general knowledge of tennis equipment and supplies.
  • Must be comfortable in a customer service role and able to work with all age groups.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are necessary to converse with program participants, facility patrons, and coworkers.
Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:
  • Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see customers in and around pro shop, courts and grounds. Both eyes 20/25 - R 20/30 - L 20/30 corrected.
  • Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see tickets, food items, cash register, dispensing machines and other work aids close at hand. Both eyes 20/22 corrected.
  • Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.  Must be able to judge distances in order to ensure the safety of program participants.  Depth perception – 4
  • Field of Vision – The area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span to observe and be aware of the outdoor/indoor setting while focusing on the participants receiving the program.  Must be alert to surroundings.
  • Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly at equipment or customers who are located at varying distances. Must be able to adjust eye lens to focus readily when glancing from near work to distance work to monitor activities and ensure safety at all areas.
Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include:
  • Medium to Heavy Work
    1. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to handle or move materials related to the position.
    2. Work requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, stretching, pushing, and pulling, although worker does sit on occasions.  There is significant use of arms, hands, feet, and legs.

    1. Reaching - Extending the hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
    2. Handling - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand(s).
    3. Fingering - Picking, pinching or otherwise working with fingers primarily rather than the entire hand or arm.

  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to work tasks and practical situations and requests made by supervisor or members of the general public; to comprehend and respond to a variety of situations in an expedient manner; to understand and communicate with individuals of varying ages.   Good judgement is important because the individual will interact directly with the public on a constant basis and may be working in the absence of a supervisor.
Mathematics Ability
  • Using arithmetic: Ability to use arithmetic to add charges for court fees, programs and merchandise, price merchandise, calculate tax percentages, count money and make change, figure daily revenue collections, and make various reports.
Language Ability
  • The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.  Ability to be conversant in voice and diction to participate in discussions in person and by telephone.

Physical Surroundings
  • The Park Attendant employee is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions:   Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot or cold environment.
Hazards
  • The Park Attendant employee will be exposed to working outside in a range of weather conditions and occasionally around controlled burning operations.  Employee will be exposed to trash, garbage, and court chemicals.  Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.
Machinery/Tools/Work Aids/Other Equipment
  • Items which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: Indoor court sweeper, indoor court scrubber, clay court roller, line sweeper, drag broom, leaf blower, vacuum cleaner, indoor/outdoor shop vacuum, tennis ball machine, copy machine, cash register, typewriter, calculator, mop, broom, First Aid supplies, scissors, telephone, receipt books, and office supplies.
