The City of High Point is currently seeking a Parks Supervisor that will responsible for supervising day-to-day operations at High Point City Lake Park and will report to the Special Facilities Division Manager. Work schedule may include nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Manages the operation of a multi-purpose recreation facility which includes a lake, lakeside activities (boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing), meeting & event center, aquatic center (waterslides, splash pad, 50-meter pool, leisure pool, lazy river), picnic shelters, amusement rides and concessions.
  • Hires and trains staff, schedules park employees, evaluates park personnel.
  • Manages the maintenance and landscaping of the park, including maintenance staff.
  • Performs administrative duties, i.e. evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Inspects the condition of facilities, playground equipment, amusements and directs or calls for repairs.
  • Oversees the cleaning and routine maintenance of park facilities and grounds.
  • Enforces departmental rules and regulations.
  • Oversees the use of the park by outside parties, contacts and schedules special park events and programs.
  • Provides supervision, staff and security for events.
  • Responsible for confirming proper certifications and permits.
  • Coordinates concessions sales, orders supplies and requests repair services.
  • Maintains compliance with Department of Water Quality, NCDEQ, and the Urban Forest Committee regulations for municipal reservoirs.
  • Responds to citizen inquiries
  • Provides excellent customer service by phone, in person, and by email.
  • Acts as a liaison to facility partner groups.
  • Submits requisitions for park supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Trains staff on operating online reservation and registration software, and ensures information is correct in the system.
  • Oversees the collection and deposit of revenue, and ensures it is entered into online reservation and registration software.
  • Prepares operating budget and monitors revenue and expenses.
  • Prepares reports on park activities, equipment and maintenance.
  • Maintains records and files.
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
  • Formal Education
    • Requires 4-year degree from an accredited university in Parks & Recreation or related field.
    • Experience must include at least 5-years of municipal or county parks and recreation experience.
    • Experience in aquatics, programming, amusement operations, park maintenance and marina operations preferred.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment and methods used in park operations
    • Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates
    • Ability to establish, communicate and maintain an effective working relationship with management, co-workers, subordinates and the general public.
    • Be able to use sound judgment when enforcing rules and regulations.
    • Ability to prepare detailed reports, maintain records and work with the budget
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Supervision
    • Must have a minimum 3-years of full-time supervisory experience in the parks and recreation field
  • Certifications
    • Must have, or the ability to obtain, a Certified Pool Operator certification within the first year of employment.
    • Must have, or the ability to obtain, a Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification within the first year of employment.
 
Physical Requirements
Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are both necessary to converse with internal and external customers including co-workers, citizens and applicants.
Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:
  • Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see from a distance when administering and observing employment tests, operating a motor vehicle or addressing an audience.
  • Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see work-related business documents close at hand.
  • Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
  • Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span of area.
  • Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly.
Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include:

    1. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or
    2. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently; and
    3. A negligible amount of force constantly to handle or move materials related to the position

  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking combined with knowledge of principles and practices of public personnel and employment laws to work tasks and handle practical situations, comprehend and respond to a variety of situations in a timely fashion and exercise good judgment.

  • Using arithmetic and/or Statistics: Ability to direct and oversee the use of arithmetic and/or statistics in the preparation of a variety of tests and reports.
Language Ability
  • The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.
Environmental Conditions
Physical Surroundings
  • The Park Supervisor is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes when working inside. No effective protection from weather when outside.
Hazards
  • The Park Supervisor will be exposed to chemicals used in landscaping, grass, weeds, rodents, insects, odors, dusts, cleaning detergents, etc. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.
Machinery/Tools/Work Aids/Other Equipment
  • Motor vehicle, computer, adding machine/calculator, typewriter, two-way radio, telephone, various manuals, contracts, schedules, report information, permits, vending machines, ordinances, rules, regulations and other work aids related to the position.
