What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Relations Intern position at City of Hilliard, Ohio USA?
Under the general supervision of the Director of Community Relations, the Community Relations Summer Intern supports and helps implement communications and marketing strategies that inform and engage the City of Hilliard community. Working alongside the professional members of the City’s public relations and marketing team, the intern will help develop written and visual content for social media, websites, newsletters, and other City communications tools. This 10- to 12-week summer internship will include attendance at and communication of many of our fun special events.
Schedule: Most work will happen during the standard business day of Monday through Friday. Interns will not work more than 40 hours per week. This opportunity does require some scheduling flexibility, as some events and activities occur in the evening and on occasional weekends.
Essential Functions of Work:
Produces creative and professional written and visual content (such as photos as reels) for social media, websites, print and electronic newsletters, and other standard City communication tools;
Assists full-time staff with various activities, which may include communication projects, public outreach, community engagement, public information, marketing, and media response;
Monitors City and community social media channels, and responds as needed;
Prepares work products free of errors while meeting deadlines in a timely manner;
Applies and monitors use of the City brand;
Able to work a flexible schedule to coordinate and support communication functions during special events, including some evening, weekend, and holiday activities;
Knowledge of AP Style and basic rules of grammar and spelling; and
Performs other related functions of the job as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be attending an accredited college or university as an undergraduate or graduate-level student obtaining a degree in public relations, strategic communications, journalism, or other closely related field, and be in good academic standing.
Must have a working knowledge and be able to effectively use general software specific to Microsoft Outlook, Office Word, Excel, Teams, etc. The ability to use Adobe Creative Suite and/or perform basic photography and social-media reels is a plus.
Ability to answer inquiries, communicate with supervisor, and communicate with the public in an effective, tactful, courteous, and professional manner.
Must have a valid driver’s license
Ability to write and speak fluent English.
Ability to follow directions, work semi-independently, and adhere to City policies.
