The GIS Analyst will play a pivotal role in managing, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data to support recreation and parks, planning, public services, and more. This position involves creating and maintaining accurate geographic datasets, performing spatial analyses, and producing high-quality maps and reports to inform decision-making. Primary datasets include water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and fiber
optics. Working closely with GIS staff and with various city departments, the GIS Analyst ensures that geographic information systems are effectively leveraged to optimize resource allocation and enhance city initiatives. With a focus on innovation and accuracy, this role is instrumental in driving data-driven solutions for municipal challenges.
Essential Functions of Work:
Analyze and update GIS data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Create and update detailed maps for recreation and parks, utilities, zoning, transportation, and other municipal services.
Develop interactive web maps and dashboards for public and internal use.
Perform spatial analysis to support decision-making.
Prepare and present GIS reports, charts, and visualizations to stakeholders.
Provide GIS expertise to various departments (e.g., planning, operations, economic development).
Train staff in the use of GIS tools and software.
Collaborate with other departments, external agencies, and consultants on GIS-related projects.
Ensure projects align with local government policies and goals.
Maintain GIS software and ensure system integration with other municipal databases.
Develop public-facing GIS applications to improve community access to local information.
Collect and maintain geospatial data using GNSS equipment and other field equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Spatial Analysis and Reporting: Utilize GIS tools and methodologies to analyze spatial data, identify patterns, and generate insightful reports that inform decision-making. Create visualizations, statistical summaries, and models to communicate findings effectively.
Project Implementation: Execute GIS-related projects, from data collection and processing to deployment and delivery. Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and align with department and organizational goals.
Asset Management: Work with GIS Administrator and GIS Associate to safeguard utility assets are mapped properly and completely for use in the City’s 311, work order, and asset management system.
Map Production: Design and produce high-quality interactive mapping apps and PDF/printable maps tailored to specific project needs. Apply cartographic principles to create clear, accurate, and aesthetically pleasing visual representations of spatial data for reports, presentations, and public distribution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
GIS Knowledge: Proficiency in Esri ArcGIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Portal/Online).
Spatial Analysis: Ability to perform geospatial analysis and data visualization.
Data Management: Skills in data management and working with spatial data formats (e.g., geodatabases, REST endpoints/Feature Services).
Cartography: Ability to create professional maps and figures for reports and presentations.
Programming: Some experience with GIS-related programming languages (e.g., Arcade, Python, SQL).
Attention to Detail: Accuracy in data entry and quality assurance for spatial datasets.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting GIS issues and developing solutions.
Communication: Ability to present technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
Project Management: Skills to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects efficiently.
Typical Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field from an accredited university.
Experience: 3 to 5 years of GIS experience, preferably in utilities and/or a local government setting.
Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Portal/Online, and related tools.
Technical Expertise: Familiarity with GNSS field data collection, interpreting utility plans, and municipal utility mapping.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
