Under general supervision of the Parks Recreation Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing routine manual labor working alone or as part of a crew. Individuals work outside in the parks and throughout the Hilliard community to make ensure the parks and trails are free of debris and litter. The ideal candidate is willing to learn and gain new skills and experiences in the recreation and parks profession while keeping our parks clean.
Essential Functions of Work:

- Assist skilled and semi-skilled workers, construction crews, and maintenance crews in performing daily work assignments.
- Perform outdoor maintenance including mowing and edging, picking up trash, raking leaves, remove snow from steps and walkways.
- Empty trash cans in Parks and Old Hilliard Corridor.
- Clean Park restroom facilities.
- Clean up work area after completion of a job.
- Perform landscape duties such as pruning, weeding, and watering flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns.
- Perform minor maintenance on equipment, grounds, and buildings.
- Lift and move heavy materials.
- Drive vehicles to transport co-workers and/or work materials.
- Assist with community special events.
- Complete simple reports as required by supervisor.
- General cleaning such as power washing, graffiti removal, sweeping curbs and parking lots, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, Recreation Program Managers, Deputy Director of Recreation and Parks, or the Director of Recreation and Parks or their designee.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to follow standard maintenance safety practices.
- Ability to read and follow written directions.
- Ability to operate small landscaping equipment such as weed trimmers, lawn mowers, and related equipment.
- Ability to maintain a clean working environment to include cleaning all maintenance tools and equipment at the end of each shift.
- Compliance with training directives established by supervisory and management personnel.
- Adherence to all applicable federal, state and local safety laws, rules and regulations and City policies/procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid State of Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Possession of or ability to obtain American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- A background free of felony convictions.
- Regular and punctual attendance is regarded as an essential requirement of this position.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
