Under general supervision of the Sports Recreation Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled labor in various aspects of athletic field maintenance. Individuals will work primarily within, but not limited to, Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park and the Hilliard Athletic Complex on the athletic fields and ball diamonds to prepare, repair, set, and maintain playing surfaces. The ideal candidate will be able to independently assess and follow operational procedures to optimally maintain and judge the playability of playing surfaces.
Essential Functions of Work:

- Perform daily athletic field and grounds maintenance include, but not limited to, dragging, lining (painting and chalking), and inspecting the athletic fields for proper safety after weather events.
- Repair work of baseball/softball fields including, watering infields, repairing bases, pitching mounds, clay batter’s boxes, and transition areas of infields and outfields.
- Move and set goals, corner flags, and other related field items daily.
- Identify equipment needs for each assigned project; organize work methods and procedures; ensure that the proper materials are available.
- Operate and/or drive specialized equipment utilized in grooming fields.
- Perform maintenance of park buildings and grounds including, but not limited to; push mowing and edging, raking leaves, watering flowers, plants, and shrubs, pick up paper and other trash debris; sweep entrances; replace trash cans; clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restrooms; replenish and maintain restroom supplies including soap dispensers, tissues and towels.
- Check assigned tools and equipment needed for maintenance and repair; make repairs; report major repairs to supervisor.
- Complete daily maintenance on equipment including checking oil, changing/cleaning air filters, refueling, and cleaning.
- Lift, move, and inventory supplies and materials.
- Answer questions and provide information to the general public; respond to citizen inquiries and complaints; maintain positive relations with the general public.
- Work independently with a variety of shifts including nights and weekends.
- Maintain training, licenses and certifications as required.
- Assist at various summer special events for the community.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, Recreation Program Managers, Deputy Director of Recreation and Parks, or the Director of Recreation and Parks or their designee.
Typical Qualifications:
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of the current methods, materials, practices, and tools used in the exterior maintenance of parks and recreation facilities.
- Ability to learn applicable safety practices.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and function within broad guidelines.
- Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a clear, concise manner.
- Possession of a valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- A background free of felony convictions.
- Regular and punctual attendance is regarded as an essential requirement of this position.
