About this Opportunity
The City of Hillsboro is looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join the City's Information Technology Team. This position will be a key contributor responsible for designing and maintaining the enterprise network and the City's emerging fiber to the premises network, HiLight. We are looking for a flexible and dynamic Engineer who will help architect and support one of the largest growing networks in the region. While the Technology Team works and communicates with great efficiency, they also like to have fun and are always up for a challenge.
Position Overview
The principal function of an employee in this class is to plan, design, develop, implement and support advanced networks with an emphasis on security, performance, high availability and network routing. Work includes a variety of network infrastructure components including, fiber, copper network cabling, and commercial network circuits. Often the initial response to an application, system, or related technical problem; troubleshoot performance issues; and execute updates, patches, etc. as assigned. Interfaces with Network Administrators to lead or assist with technical solutions.
Our ideal candidate should have a minimum of 6 years of complex networking experience and be adept at managing priorities and collaborating with diverse teams. Great interpersonal skills and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

- Experience with large, complex distributed networks - core or multiple core environments
- Skill with advanced troubleshooting of copper and fiber networks
- Expertise in enterprise level network protocols including OSPF and BGP and security enhanced switching and firewall platforms
- A high degree of self-motivation and a "get it done" mind set
- A sense of work ownership
- A desire to participate and learn new technology
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- A leadership mindset while working both independently and collaboratively across diverse teams

Acceptable Experience and Training
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Services or a closely related field and six years of experience in network support, computer applications, and information security; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
