Engineering Coordinator

The Ideal Candidate:

• Will have a strong background in inspecting the Public Right of Way for residential, commercial and pipe bursting projects.

• They will be familiar with ODOT Standard Specifications, Clean Water Services (CWS) Standards, and City of Hillsboro Design and Construction Standards.

• The ideal candidate will be proficient with permitting software. They will be self-motivated and will be able to make sound decisions under pressure.

• The candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills as they will be communicating daily with contractors, engineers, co-workers, and various members of the public.

The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform coordinative and/or supervisory level activities in support of engineering analysis, development and mapping. Responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day mapping, development review, permitting, and related operations and activities; managing capital projects; conducting engineering analysis studies; participating in the development of unit goals, objectives and procedures; resolving complex issues with either citizens, contractors and consultants; and, overseeing regulatory compliance. Incumbents may supervise other engineering technician staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training; and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Public Administration, Project Management or a closely related field and a preferred 5 years of experience in assigned area of responsibility, including 1 year of lead or supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing/Certifications:

Depending on assignment, some positions may require:

• Valid Driver's License and safe driving record;

• ODOT General Inspector (CGI) Certification within one-year of hire, based upon area of assignment;

• Oregon/ Washington CESCL Certification within one-year of hire, based on area of assignment.

Knowledge of:

• Supervisory principles, practices and techniques (based on assignment);• Applicable Federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations and/or ordinances;• Civil Engineering principles and practices;• Engineering planning, specification, and drawing methods and techniques;• Surveying and mapping systems and techniques;• Mathematical concepts;• Project management principles;• Applicable equipment, controls and systems of assigned area of responsibility;• Safety principles and practices;• Data collection techniques;• Modern office equipment.
